Once upon a time in the South Bay, there was a group of concerned citizens that wanted to make a positive impact on the community.  They banded together and created a simple website where users could produce original content and share ideas freely.

Facebook came along and popularized the idea rapidly.  Facebook exploded with popularity while the South Bay Beat struggled with hosting and design issues.

Other social media sites like MySpace, Linkedin and Twitter have taken the entire web experience from point, click and read to WOW!. 

One important question to consider, do social websites help or hurt the community?  After the social bullying that occured, it becomes a meaningful topic.

The editors of the South Bay Beat firmly believe that the positive aspects of social media out-weigh limited consequences.  Nothing in life is perfect (except newborn babies) and as technology improves, users of technology must adapt.

The landscape is ever changing.  What is next on the horizon?  That topice will be explored in a future article.  Until then, power to the Facebook mob.
